History

Founded in 1877, in the quiet dawn following the tumult of the Commune, La Bellevilloise emerged as the first Parisian cooperative, carrying within it a luminous ambition: to open the doors of political and cultural knowledge to those of modest means.

A haven of resistance, La Bellevilloise became a meeting ground where producers and consumers first traded directly, a living artery of solidarity. From 1910 to 1949, it pulsed at the heart of Eastern Paris, shaping its economic life and nourishing its artistic soul.”
